Open-section alerts

Mark a closed section Notify me anywhere it is listed and you’ll hear when a seat opens. Alerts reach you three ways:

  • In the tab, while the site is open: a check every 45 seconds, a toast and a browser notification. Works signed out.
  • Push to this device, with the site closed: a notification on your phone or computer, a tap opens WebReg with the index filled in. Needs an account and the setup below.
  • Email to your account address, once per opening, with the same WebReg link. On when you are signed in and the site has it switched on.

Set up by device

Push alerts are per device and browser: turn them on on each phone or computer you want them on.

iPhone and iPad

Safari, iOS 16.4 or later
  1. Open ruscheduling.com in Safari. On iPhone only Safari can install a site to the Home Screen; Chrome and others can’t.
  2. Tap Share (the square with the arrow), then Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  3. Open the app from its Home Screen icon, sign in, and come back to this page (Account → Alerts). Alerts never reach the Safari tab itself.
  4. Tap Turn on push alerts and Allow.
  5. If nothing arrives: Settings → Notifications → RU Scheduling? → Allow Notifications, and check your Focus modes.

iOS delivers push only to sites installed on the Home Screen; this is Apple’s rule, not the site’s.

Android

Chrome, Samsung Internet, Edge, Firefox
  1. Sign in on this phone.
  2. Tap Turn on push alerts and Allow.
  3. Optional: browser menu → Add to Home screen for an app icon. Alerts work either way.
  4. Battery saver and “optimize battery usage” can hold pushes back for hours: Settings → Apps → your browser → Battery → Unrestricted.
  5. Blocked by mistake? Browser menu → Settings → Site settings → Notifications → RU Scheduling? → Allow.

Mac, Windows and Linux

Chrome, Edge, Firefox; Safari on macOS 13 or later
  1. Sign in in this browser.
  2. Click Turn on push alerts and Allow in the browser’s prompt.
  3. Alerts show as system notifications, so the system has to let the browser notify: macOS System Settings → Notifications → your browser → Allow; Windows Settings → System → Notifications, and Focus assist / Do not disturb off.
  4. Safari on a Mac: Safari → Settings → Websites → Notifications → RU Scheduling? → Allow.
  5. Blocked by mistake? Click the icon left of the address (lock or sliders) → Notifications → Allow, then reload this page.

The browser has to be running, in the background is fine, for a desktop alert to show.

Register in WebRegOpen the planner
  • Tapping it opens WebReg with the section’s index already filled in. You still sign in there with your NetID and submit the registration.
  • One alert per opening. A section that closes and opens again alerts again, replacing the earlier one. Email arrives alongside when it is on.
  • It is a reading of Rutgers’ open-sections list at the moment of the check, not a reservation: seats go in minutes during add/drop.

If nothing arrives

  • Are you signed in on this device, and does “Push alerts” above say On? Push follows your account’s watches.
  • Are you still watching the section? The tray’s Watching block on the planner lists every watch with its last reading.
  • Phone on Focus or Do Not Disturb, or the browser’s notifications silenced in system settings? “Send a test notification” shows whether anything gets through at all.
  • iPhone: opened from the Home Screen icon, not a Safari tab. Android: the browser excluded from battery optimization.
  • The in-tab check and the email are independent of push: keep a tab open, or rely on the email, and report what you see if a seat opened without an alert.
